Mohammed Amjad and Ehsan Khan, second-generation Pakistanis, moved to Aylesbury at a young age. Childhood friends since infant school, they were among the first Muslim graduates from Aylesbury to complete university in the UK. They have witnessed the evolution of Aylesbury's Muslim community from a handful of families who all knew one another into a vibrant, diverse, and flourishing population.
The growth has come at the expense of a sense of disconnect — a loss of the close-knit ties that once defined the community. Those who have grown up in larger cities are often used to being part of diverse, disparate communities. But in a place like Aylesbury, where everyone once knew each other, the shift has been deeply felt.
We want to create a warm and welcoming environment via a network of like-minded professionals that newcomers can tap into for support and assistance. The core aims of the network are to connect professionals, develop a referral network, create opportunities to offer guidance and mentorship for Muslims entering the professions and to create a resource pool that the community can turn to for support and assistance.
Inspired by this teaching, we strive to come together to support one another and help our community reach even greater heights. We hope to make this network become a platform for collaboration, mentorship and opportunity, strengthening not just the Muslim community but the wider community of Aylesbury as a whole.
